Empowered Girl Series provides an amazing, holistic experience for teen girls that will leave them feeling empowered, mindful, and ready to take on the world.
It is designed to provide creative and engaging opportunities for girls to meet and interact with distinguished women with proven track records of success in their respective fields. This platform will motivate the girls to advance their education, and unlock their boundless potential.
Girls have long been discriminated against by society and made to believe that they are inferior or less important than boys.
Studies conducted by the United Nations on different traditional practices have found that the boy child is still viewed as better or more capable than the girl child in many countries; especially Africa.
Harmful traditional values and beliefs like son preference, early and forced marriages and female genital mutilation still affect girls around the world. Young girls just like boys have the potential to become lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, scientists, visionary change makers or leaders in life. But each passing day, young girls face strenuous hurdles that prevent them from reaching their full potential. Unwanted pregnancies, early childbirth and access to education are the leading challenges faced by adolescent girls mostly in deprived communities. These have dealt an enormous blow to their self-esteem and ability to succeed.
Empowered Girl Series will therefore create a safe space for girls to be educated, informed and develop the personal, social and athletic leadership skills necessary, that will motivate and inspire them to secure a better future.
Our speaker sessions are designed to bring inspiring and successful young women to share their individual journeys to becoming successful women, as well as answer questions from the audience.
Empowered Girl Series 2020 is under the theme: ‘Raising Empowered, Mindful and Capable Girls to Drive Positive Change’.
The Foundation believes that we will create the female leaders of tomorrow by empowering girls today.
OBJECTIVES
- Help girls improve, learn, build solid self-esteem and confidence.
- Make school safe for girls
- Address sexual abuse and harassment issues amongst girls in school and at home
- Help girls to abstain from sex and help them understand their sexuality
- Empower and encourage girls to stay in school to achieve academic excellence
EXTENDED DRIVE
This initiative will be operational in deprive communities where there are high cases of girl child school dropout, and teenage pregnancies so that each and every girl will benefit from the program. This girl engagement initiative will also be accessible to young girls in Senior High Schools across the country. The platform will teach young girls how to tackle life’s challenges and live a more productive life. Instilling the right values in young girls will help them grow into strong women. We believe that girl’s education can make a lifelong difference to not only an individual’s life but to the larger society.
It is therefore a collective responsibility to ensure that there is an effective, efficient and practical framework that will prioritize the needs of girls.
