A community school in the Okere constituency in the Eastern Region gets support from Jodeb Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.

The two-unit classroom block of the Otareso Community School at Otareso, built by the MP for the area, Hon. Daniel Kweku Botwe, needed a facelift, and was listed among schools to be supported by the foundation.

Mr Enoch Quaye, Project Lead, for Jodeb Foundation, at a handing over ceremony on Saturday, counted the project among the biggest the organization has undertaken.

\”This is even more important to help give our children the best start in life, and also improve their academics. A conducive classroom and school design help children to understand with ease what is been taught\”, he reiterated.

He said, the project was the fruit of a successful collaboration among the organization, its partners and the community. He encouraged the community to take good care and maintain the edifice.

“By the grace of God, the project is complete. The school now has a new look, educational materials, playing items, school bags, Friday wear, eating bowls, etc, and you must help maintain it. When you upgrade an existing building, you want to ensure it will not only enhance school facilities but also students’ academic performance,” Mr Quaye said, and advised parents to give their children the needed support and motivation in to be in school.

Mr Jonas Avademe, spokesperson for the elders and people of Otareso, said, children will now be encouraged to go to school as a result of the new look of the school and educational items provided. He added that the burden of parents who could not afford educational materials have been eased.

According to Mr Avademe, a well-designed classroom boost children’s academic performance in reading, writing and maths.
\”Good school interior and exterior design is the key factor in academic improvement and in improving the overall wellbeing of pupils as well as helping to attract and retain the best staff and teachers for your school. We therefore appreciate the efforts of Jodeb Foundation\”, Mr. Avademe added.

Mr. Nelson Ador, a teacher in the school, said the number of attendances keep increasing but the school building cannot host all of the students. He appealed to stakeholders to come to their aid and help build additional classrooms.
He said, \”a good library, teaching and learning materials and playing materials for the school will go a long way to help improve the standard of education in the community\”.

Items donated to the school included; a variety of
educational materials, book shelve, moveable marker boards, branded t-shirts to
use as Friday wear, school bags, playing materials, large bowls for hand washing,
