Profile of Project Community
Tove-Wupko, a remote village in the Central Tongu District of Volta Ghana has no basic school. Children of school-going age from crèche have to walk for five (5) miles one way to get to the nearest school available at Yorkitikpo (a nearby community). Hence the initiative to build Tove-Wupko preschool to accommodate children between the ages of three (3) to five (5). Local community representatives have already identified a site and secured approval from the district assembly. The project has begun and construction is underway.
The elders and people have demonstrated their support by volunteering their expertise to help with construction.
However, funds for the project have been exhausted, so we want to raise the necessary financial resources to
complete the project.
The Problem
Declining Education: Most children are denied access to preschool education due to the unavailability of a school in the community.
Health Problems: As a result of walking five (5) miles to school each day, children develop health-related problems
that tend to affect their studies.
Hash Learning Conditions: A child can’t learn and progress in a non-conducive learning
environment.
Lack of Basic Educational Suppliers: Many children are out of school because their parents cannot afford basic learning materials.
Margins: There is a huge educational disparity gap between children in communities with easy access to school
and communities with no school.
The Solution
To construct Tove-Wupko preschool to provide quality basic education to benefit school-going children between the ages of 3 and 5 years.
Prioritize early childhood development and education: This offers a critical window of opportunity to shape the trajectory of a child’s holistic development and build a foundation for their future. They are prioritizing early child development through easy access to learning facilities.
Support: For children to achieve their full potential, as is their human right they need health care and nutrition, protection from harm and a sense of security, opportunities for early learning, and responsive caregiving.
Monetize: Quality cost effective pre-primary education is one of the best investments available for ensuring the future success of children.
Project Objectives
Provide quality education for pupils between the ages of three (3) to five (5) by availing better, closer, and conducive learning facilities.
Reduce the rate of school dropouts.
Improved literacy levels in the community.
Strategies of Implementation
Local community representatives have identified a site and have approval from the district education secretariat responsible for Primary Education. Community members have volunteered their labor in the early stages of the construction of the school. There is however a need to get professional guidance to avoid constructing substandard buildings. Other building materials required are yet to be procured. The Tove-Wupko preschool
includes the construction of;
Two classroom blocks, a staff room
A store room
A restroom
Monitoring and Evaluation
The project Monitoring and Evaluation will be conducted by Jodeb Foundation staff in cooperation with the educational secretariat of the Central Tongu District Assembly and community representatives.
Monitoring and evaluation will enable the organization to assess the quality of the project implemented against their
action plans. Jodeb Foundation field staff will produce reports highlighting the project’s successes and failures. Meetings with all stakeholders will also be done to check on the progress of the project.
Weekly reports will be filed to donors and partners for accountability and transparency.
