Sanitary Pads for Rural School Girls

Empowered Girl Series 2021

Menstruation period should not prevent a girl from going to school.

As part of activities for Empowered Girl Series, we wish to provide sanitary pads for girls at the Akaboha D/A Basic School where the program is hosted. A lot of girls in rural communities are compelled to skip school during the period of their menstruation due to lack of decent sanitary towels.

It has been observed that menstruation has become a hindrance to consistent school attendance and active participation amongst adolescent girls in deprived communities.
It is also evident that the high cost of sanitary pads in poor communities is affecting the education of girls because many the girls, especially those in deprived communities cannot afford the product.

A news report filed by Kojo Ansah, on Starfmonline, indicates that accessing menstrual management products in rural communities in Ghana remains a challenge that forces many teenage girls to sometimes exchange sex for sanitary pads.
The report further reveals that lack of menstrual hygiene friendly facilities in Basic Schools have been linked to high absenteeism among rural school girls.

Empowered Girl Series seeks to provide an amazing, holistic experience for teen girls that will leave them feeling empowered, mindful, and ready to take on the world.

As part of activities, we wish to supply sanitary pads for over 50 school girls participating in the Empowered Girl Series. We invite you to partner and make a donation to support this agenda.
